Do ExtHive extensions collect my browsing data?

No. Our extensions process your content locally in your browser. We do not receive the pages you visit, the screenshots you take or the prompts you write. The only personal data we hold is what a paid licence requires — your email, licence key and subscription status — plus anything you have explicitly turned on, such as settings sync, and any support email you send us.

Do I need an account?

It depends on the extension and the plan. Snapshot has no account at all: no sign-up, no licence, no server it talks to. Prompt Guard's Free plan is the same, but Pro and Team require an ExtHive account because a paid licence has to belong to someone — activating your key creates it. Every extension states its answer plainly on its product page, under Privacy, before you install it.

Which features involve your servers rather than my device?

A short list, and it never includes the content an extension inspects. Licence activation checks your subscription is valid. Prompt Guard Pro can sync your settings between your own devices, which is off until you switch it on. Prompt Guard Team stores the administrator's policy, the seat list and audit metadata — which detector fired and when, never what it matched. Some upcoming extensions will add optional hosted features, such as running a Page Pulse check while your browser is closed; each one is documented on that extension's page before it ships.

Why does an extension need access to page content?

Accepted Answer

Because it has to read the page to do its job — capture it, or scan the compose box on it. That access is granted by the browser and used at the moment you invoke the feature; it is not a channel back to us. Every permission and its exact reason is listed on each extension's product page and in its own privacy policy.

Which browsers do you support?

Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and other Chromium-based browsers are supported today. Firefox builds are in progress and each extension's page shows its current status per browser. Safari is not supported yet.

Are the free plans limited trials?

Accepted Answer

No. Snapshot is free in full, permanently — every capture mode, the whole editor, every export format, no watermark. Prompt Guard's Free plan has no time limit and no card requirement; it is capped on detector count and supported sites rather than on how long you may use it.

Question 7

How do I pay, and who charges my card?

Accepted Answer

Paddle.com Market Ltd. is our Merchant of Record. They process the payment, issue the invoice and handle sales tax, VAT and GST. Your statement shows a Paddle descriptor, not ExtHive. We never see your full card number.

What is your refund policy?

Accepted Answer

Fourteen days, money back, no reason required. Email billing@exthive.com within 14 days of any charge and we refund it in full. Renewals charged by mistake are refunded on the same terms.

Can I use one licence on several computers?

Accepted Answer

Yes, up to your plan's device limit — three devices on Prompt Guard Pro. A licence is personal to one individual; Team plans provide separate seats that can be reassigned between people but not shared simultaneously.

What happens to my settings if I cancel?

Accepted Answer

Nothing on your device is deleted. Your settings, custom rules and logs live in local extension storage, so cancelling only deactivates the paid features and resubscribing later finds everything as you left it. If you had settings sync enabled, we delete the synced copy within 30 days of the subscription ending — your local copy is what keeps working.

How do I report a security vulnerability?

Email legal@exthive.com with the details and, if you can, a proof of concept. We acknowledge reports within one business day, will not pursue anyone acting in good faith, and will credit you in the release notes if you would like us to.

Does Snapshot upload my screenshots anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. Capture, stitching, annotation and export all happen inside your browser using the Canvas API. Snapshot has no backend server, no account system and no analytics on your captures. Nothing you capture ever leaves your machine unless you export and share it yourself.

Is Snapshot really free?

Yes — every capture mode, the full editor and all export formats are free, with no watermarks, no capture limits and no trial period. Snapshot is how we introduce people to ExtHive, and we intend to keep it free.

Why does the extension need access to page content?

Accepted Answer

To render a screenshot, Snapshot has to read the page it is capturing — that is what the host permission is for. It reads only the tab you explicitly trigger a capture on, only at the moment you trigger it, and it never transmits what it reads.

Can it capture pages behind a login?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Snapshot captures whatever your browser is already rendering, so authenticated dashboards, internal tools and staging environments all work exactly like public pages.

What about very long pages?

Snapshot handles pages tens of thousands of pixels tall by capturing in segments and stitching them. Extremely long captures are limited by your browser's maximum canvas size; when that limit is reached, Snapshot offers a multi-page PDF export instead.

Does Prompt Guard read my prompts?

The extension reads the text in the compose box in order to scan it — that is the entire function of the product. That reading happens exclusively inside your browser. Prompt text is never transmitted to ExtHive, never written to a remote server, and never used for training. Detection is pattern matching that runs locally; there is no inference service behind it and nowhere for your prompts to be sent.

Do I need an account?

Not for the Free plan — install it and it works, with no sign-up, no email and no identifier. Pro and Team do require an ExtHive account, because a paid licence has to be tied to someone: pasting the licence key from your purchase email creates it and unlocks the paid features. If you later cancel, the extension keeps working on the Free plan and you can delete the account.

What does Prompt Guard store on your servers?

On Free, nothing at all. On Pro, your licence record and — only if you switch settings sync on — your detector configuration and allowlist, encrypted in transit and at rest. On Team, additionally the administrator's policy, the seat list and the audit metadata described below. Prompt text and the values your detectors match are in none of these, on any plan.

Will it slow down my typing?

No. Scans are debounced and typically complete in under ten milliseconds on the compose box. Detection runs off the critical input path, so keystrokes render immediately regardless of scan state.

Which AI tools are supported?

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Mistral Le Chat, DeepSeek, Poe, GitHub Copilot Chat on the web, Grok, Groq and HuggingChat. Pro and Team plans let you enable Prompt Guard on any additional site by URL pattern.

What happens when it flags something incorrectly?

You can dismiss the warning and send as-is, and optionally add the value or pattern to your allowlist so it is not flagged again. Allowlists are stored locally by default; turning on Pro settings sync copies yours to your other devices via our servers, and Team plans can distribute a shared allowlist across the organisation.

How is the Team plan different?

Team adds centrally managed detector policies, a shared allowlist, seat management and an organisation-wide audit export. This is the plan with the most server involvement: policies are stored by us and pushed to seats, and each seat reports audit metadata — detector name, timestamp and the action taken — so administrators can see that the control is working. Prompt text and matched values are still never collected. Administrators see that an AWS key was caught, not what the key was.

Is settings sync required?

No. It is a Pro feature you turn on, and it is off until you do. With it off, your detector settings, custom rules and allowlist stay in local extension storage exactly as they do on Free — you simply configure each device separately. With it on, that configuration is encrypted and stored by us so your devices match.

Can I try Pro before paying?

Yes. Pro includes a 14-day free trial with no card required, and the Free plan remains fully usable indefinitely if you decide not to upgrade.
